As the OLIWA project advances its mission to upcycle Mediterranean olive waste, the infrastructure supporting this cutting-edge research is scaling up to meet the challenge.
On June 22nd, 2026, the University of Turin (UNITO) held a public presentation at its research complex in Carmagnola (Strada Torino 620) to unveil major facility improvements. These upgraded infrastructures will directly host and accelerate UNITO’s crucial activities for the OLIWA project.
Upgrading Bioconversion Capacities Representing the OLIWA consortium at the event, Prof. Gasco highlighted how these state-of-the-art improvements will boost the operational capacity of the research team.
UNITO plays a pivotal role in OLIWA by utilizing insect bioconversion—specifically rearing larvae on olive byproducts—to generate sustainable feed and biomaterials. The enhanced Carmagnola facility provides the advanced, controlled environments necessary to scale these biological trials from laboratory settings to pre-industrial volumes.
By investing in robust research infrastructure, UNITO and the OLIWA project ensure that the transition toward a circular, zero-waste bioeconomy is built on a solid, highly efficient technological foundation.
